Kennedy Residence Celebrates Re-Opening

TORONTO, Ontario, April 30, 2004 – Kennedy Residence, a 55-bed personal rooming house, celebrated its official re-opening today after a year of extensive renovations.

The project, costing $1.6 million to complete, was made possible thanks to $750,000 in funding through Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s (CMHC) Residential Rehabilitation Assistance program (RRAP) and $848,000 in private funds.

"This project is an excellent example of the Government of Canada’s commitment to providing help to those in our community who are most in need," said the Honourable Bill Graham, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Member of Parliament for Toronto Centre-Rosedale. "I extend my congratulations to all those who worked so very hard to ensure the continued operation of this home."

"This successful renovation will allow us to help more people in a safe, comfortable environment," said Ken Kennedy, administrator of Kennedy Residence. "The renovations to the house were made possible through the support of CMHC. We wish to express our thanks to all who helped make this project possible."

Kennedy Residence specializes in providing housing for the elderly and for the homeless.

CMHC committed funding to the project through a combination of RRAP programs which are designed to provide financial assistance to repair existing accommodation for low-income households, convert non-residential properties into affordable housing and to modify housing to improve access for low-income disabled persons.
