OTTAWA, Ontario, June 6, 2005 — The Honourable Joe Fontana, Minister of Labour and Housing announced today the appointments of Harold Calla and Gary P. Mooney to the Board of Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. Mr. Calla will represent the province of British Columbia, and Mr. Mooney the province of Ontario.
"Both Harold Calla and Gary Mooney have extensive knowledge in housing related areas such as land management, international business and finance," said Minister Fontana. "I am confident their years of experience will be of great benefit to the Canadian housing industry."
Mr. Calla, member of the Squamish Nation located in North Vancouver, British Columbia, is currently the Director of Finance and holds other positions within the Squamish Nation, including Chair-Economic Development, Treaty Committee member, Chair of the Finance Sub-committee and Councillor.
Originally from Newfoundland, Mr. Mooney studied at the University of Toronto, the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and holds a PhD from the University of Cambridge. After being an attorney, he was appointed President and Chief Operating Officer of Mississauga-based insurance company Fidelity National Financial (FNF) in 2003. He was named the 2004 Business Person of the year by the Mississauga Board of Trade. Mr. Mooney is involved in various community service organizations such as Parents Against Drugs and Cheshire House, a home for disabled people.
