Alan Tennant, FRI is CREA’s 59th President

OTTAWA, Ontario, March 30, 2006 — The 59th President of The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA), Alan Tennant, FRI of Airdrie, Alberta, says he is passionate about real estate, and proud to be the one selected to represent 83,000 REALTORS® in Canada.

“I am proud to be part of a profession that celebrates innovation and creativity. It’s exciting to be part of a profession and responds to consumers with such varied and proactive business models. I am proud to be a REALTOR® – and I am asking our leadership to make sure all of our members are proud to be a REALTOR® as well,” the new CREA President said.

Alan Tennant, FRI has been a Director of the national Association for six years. As Chair of the MLS® and Technology Council, Alan also served as the MTC Representative on the Board. In addition to his MTC duties, he has also worked on the CREA Strategic Planning Committee and other task forces and committees. Prior to election to the CREA Board of Directors, Alan was President of the Calgary Real Estate Board in 1998 and was his Board's REALTOR® of the Year in 1995. He has received the Queen's Jubilee Award and was recognized by RE/MAX of Western Canada with a Special Services Award. He was also named Volunteer of the Year by the City of Airdrie in 2005.

“My goal in 2006 is to work with Directors, Boards, Associations and members so we will all look back at this year as a year of creative decision making, with an unwavering resolve to fulfill our vision,” the new CREA President said.

The message to REALTORS®, Alan said, is in the slogan that says “R” is the hardest working letter in the alphabet. “That’s because of what it stands for. There’s value in the REALTOR® name. It’s a symbol that exemplifies many things, including professionalism, knowledge, trust, experience, and training. And homebuyers and sellers know this. It’s also a selling tool. And the more all of us use it, the better our chances are to collectively bring more value to our REALTOR® name and to the consumer. “ Alan Tennant, FRI is an Associate Broker with RE/MAX Rocky View. He has been married to Rona for 25 years; they have two daughters – including one who has just earned her Alberta real estate licence.

The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) is one of Canada’s largest single-industry trade associations, representing more than 83,000 REALTORS®. CREA’s primary mission is to represent members at the federal level, and to defend the public’s right to own and enjoy property.
