WARMAN, Saskatchewan, October 6, 2006 — Federal, provincial and community partners gathered in Warman today to celebrate the opening of the Warman Mennonite Seniors Haven, an 8-unit, independent living housing complex for low-income seniors. The complex received funding from all three levels of government totaling $400,000.
The rental units were constructed under the Centenary Affordable Housing Program (CAHP), with funding assistance provided by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation, the Town of Warman and Warman Mennonite Inc.
“Our seniors deserve safe, quality housing where they can live with dignity,” said Maurice Vellacott, Member of Parliament for Saskatoon – Wanuskewin, on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development. “Canada’s new Government is very proud to work with our partners at all levels of government to create affordable housing solutions for seniors in Warman.”

We are committed to helping local organizations develop housing solutions that meet the needs of their communities, and to ensure that no one is left behind.”
“It is gratifying to know that our seniors, in their golden years, have services available for assisted living if and when it is necessary,” Warman Mayor Wally Davis said. “This will enable couples to remain together and continue their strong bond for each other.”
The total cost of the project is estimated to be $676,000. The breakdown of the CAHP contribution is as follows: $200,000 from Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation; $160,000 from Saskatchewan Housing Corporation; and $40,000 from the Town of Warman. The balance of the funding will be provided by Warman Mennonite Inc. in the form of $200,000 mortgage financing, land contribution and an in-kind contribution.
The single-level apartment building features apartment-style housing units designed for affordability, accessibility and sustainability. The facility is located near a seniors centre and other community amenities.
